It is estimated that 90% of women will develop cellulite at some point in their lives.  No one is at mercy; even those with low body fat are susceptible to this bothersome condition.

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite is nothing more than normal fat beneath the skin.  The fat appears bumpy because some fat cells at random become enlarged and push against connective tissue between the fat cells and the skin, which causes the skin above it to pucker.  While it isn’t harmful, most women would like to get rid of it because of the way it looks.  Lucky for them, there are ways to diminish the appearance of cellulite.

  1. Treadmill_ExerciseExercise: A study in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that fat oxidation increased by 36 percent after high-intensity aerobic interval training. While a regular exercise plan cannot cure cellulite, it can help prevent or reduce its appearance.  You can target troubling fat cells by setting the treadmill on an incline, sprint for 1 minute, then slow to a walk for 30 seconds.  Repeat this for a total of 3 sprints – and do this workout 3 times a week to see results within a month.

  1. Medical Procedures: The FDA has cleared the use of a device that uses laser energy to treat cellulite. According to the manufacturer, the device can melt fat under the skin, break up the fibrous bands under the skin, and stimulate collagen production.   This treatment is backed by many years of clinical research and is effective, but it is pricey.

  1. Cellulite Creams: The easiest short-term way to improve the appearance of cellulite is with a lotion or a cream.  Creams should contain these 2 important ingredients:  (1) caffeine – has a temporary tightening effect and help bumps look smoother, and (2) a vitamin A derivative, which over time can thicken the outer layer of the skin and make lumps less visible.  Definitions Skincare, a leader in quality skin care products, makes an effective cream that contains both these ingredients called Anti-Cellulite Crème.
